I know when ripping a dvd you can just get the chapters from the ifo files. But what about when you cap a movie off of vhs or tv? I have a couple of movies I gott of HBO that I want to author to dvd but don't know how to got about inserting chapters.
what do you guys use? do you just set the program to add a chapter after a every 3-5mins or do u preview the movie and add a chapter after every scene change? seems kinda time consuming but that's what i'm leaning towards

It's all a matter of choice. When I add chapters I usually insert one every 10 mins. If you want to spend the time you could insert chapters at different scene changes. I only use chapters to make it easier to find were I left off in case I can't finish the video so 10 mins. is perfect for me.

depends on how much I care.
for stuff that I go to an effort to make nice, I put in chapter stops wherever it seems appropriate.
for stuff that I'm just archiving, and don't need fancy menus, intros, etc. I have some chapter files, saved by length, that put a chapter in every 3 minutes.- housepig

Pretty much the same here. Normally 10 minutes (I just let MF2 handle it). On occasion, I may tweak it a little bit to hit a "good" spot.

I usually stick 10 chapters in because TMPGenc DVD Author has a 10 chapter Layout that looks nicely proportioned on my TV.
