  1. As you can see I am a total newbie to the dvd backing up scene. I did not do any research and just want some quick answers I guess.. I am using NERO 6 to make up backup of my mpg home video that i ripped off a VHS tape using DAZZLE hardware..

I finally got a chance to buy a dvd burner and now I just want to know how I could back this mpg movie onto the dvd.. It is telling me that the mpg is too long to back up. How would I accomplish this?? Can I burn a 3 hr and 34 minute mpg to a dvd? How long does an average dvd disc hold? Help.. thanks for reading and helping.

Are you using the MovieStar software that comes with Dazzle products, and is your audio in LPCM format?

  3. I am using NERO 6 software to perform the backup.. I forget what utility I used to rip the vhs to mpg. But if I use nero it should be able to back up longer than 3 and 1/2 hrs correct?

I'm not versed in Nero's DVD creating software. All I can tell you is to use a bitrate calculator and an encoder that will let you set a variable bitrate. You also want to steer clear of using PCM auidio as it's extremely wasteful. You can fit a movie the size of yours on a DVDr easily using the correct bitrate and half D1 resolution (352x480 NTSC).

you need to re-encode to a lower bitrate.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Everything you wish to know can be learnt by applying a few basic reading and searching skills. Please utilise these in the future.

    Preach Over.

What you need to do is load your file into TMPGEnc Plus. Load the DVD (NTSC) template. Load the unlock template. Change the bitrate control to 2-Pass VBR and use Min 2000 Max 8000 and Ave 2500. Change the frame size to 352 X 480. Then you need to author it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I would use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the IFO, BUP and VOB files and Nero to burn.
    If in doubt, Google it.
