    It's reading DVD's but no matter what I do, I can't get it to recognize it as a DVD writer, not even with Nero, which I usually use to burn my movies.

    this is a new DVD Burner for me, and I can't make it work no matter what I do.

    have you solved your prpblem as yet as I am having difficulty with my lg 4080 also, I use Nero and Neo burn software.
    With both I can't erase rewritble disks that didnt burn properly just freezes up and have to reboot, tho i have burnt -r's since with no problem.
    Perhaps the -wr are useless?
