  1. Im looking to author a DVD that has multiple audio eg directors commentary, foreign language. At the moment im using TMPEGnc DVD but i dont think i can do it with this. I know DVD Lab allows this but my trial has expired and i dont want to pay for the full version (unless theres no other option).

Are there any other (hopefully free) authoring tools that allow you to create multiple audio tracks or a way to do it with TMPGEnc DVD?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

It isn't possible with tmpgenc dvd author.

Ifoedit is free but you wont get any menus.
dvdauthorgui is also free but the menu creation is kinda limited.

You can try ReelDVD, it has a free trial and has a good set of features (including at least 3 audio streams if I remember correctly).

You can do it with DVD Lab. You need to use IFOEdit first to author the title as a single movie multi audio track DVD. You then use DVDDecrypter or SmartRipper to "rip" the VIDEO_TS folder into a single large VOB file and you feed this to DVD Lab as an asset. You don't demux it within DVDLab. You can use DVDLab to create menus, chapters, etc.

One of the things you can't do within DVDLab is to select the audio track through a menu. You need to use the DVD Player's audio track selection button for this.

The alternative tools are pretty expensive to buy. I guess ReelDVD and Adobe Encore are probably the "cheapest".
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Actually, under the Guides section to the left, look for DVD-lab. There is a guide on how to make an audio menu. It involves the use of DVD-lab and IFOedit. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty straightforward.

The latest version of ReelDVD supports 8 audio streams and 32 subpicture/subtitle streams, but it does not have a provision to create audio or subtitle menus.
Tools used: ScenalyzerLive 4.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional, Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, IFOedit 0.96, DVD-lab PRO 1.53, Adobe Audition 2.0

  7. Have you tried DVDAuthorGUI? It's free and now allows for multiple audio/menus/subs.
