I'm still trying to decide if I should end up purchasing iuVCR or if I should just stick with the free virtualVCR. I really like the setup of iuVCR and the built-in scheduler but don't know if I should just keep using virtualVCR with the separate schedule. What do you guys suggest?
Have you noticed a lot of difference between the quality between captures of these two programs?
One thing that really bothers me about the captures in iuVCR is that the schedular does not put the name of the program in the file name. (just the timestamp)
Also, I'm having the same problem deciding if I should purchase the picvideo codecs of just continue using the huffy codecs. What do you guys think?

I found that iuVCR gives me a much tighter audio/video sync, better than Virtual VCR. Otherwise, since I don't use the scheduling function, I would have continued to use Virtual VCR.
If you don't have any sync problems, how important is the scheduling?
As for codecs, I use Huffy when I want to preserve the original as much as possible, and I use PicVideo on stuff where a little less quality is an acceptable tradeoff for file size.
for example - transferring from VHS. I use Huffy if it's a video in exceptionally good condition. If the video is slightly mushy from age / tape wear, I'm not going to see the difference between the two codecs (I ran some head-to-head tests and could not tell the difference after encoding) so I use MJPEG and save 19Gb per hour of material...- housepig

I tried VirtualVCR and the dynamic resampling method of A/V sync just did not work for me.
I tried iuVCR and was getting good results but the time limitation wore off and that was actually when I starting playing around with VirtualVCR
I never used iuVCR enough to decide if I wanted to purchase it.
So I looked around some more and I found a program called TheFlyDS which works very much the same way as iuVCR but I like it better because it has a very easy-to-use Audio Level Meter ... makes setting the input volume extremely easy while being very effective that you don't set it too high or too low.
I'd give it a try.
Either way I would forget VirtualVCR

iuVCR works when the other capture applications fails, because it is based on it own drivers.
VirtualVCR works excellent: If you use the built it AC97 codec of your motherboard for capturing, you don't need to set up the dynamic resampling method. You use this feature only for PCI audio cards. With the USB audio cards, it is a matter of luck if virtualvcr works for you. Also, this program works better on win2k than win XP (as all the programs of our hobby do, except the M$ ones...)
It is also possible to make virtualdub to work with win 2K (not so compatible with winXP). Just install the latest service pack and do the registry tweaks as they are described on Virtualdub's page.
There are at least 2 schedgulers for VirtualVCR, which you can find on the tools section. There are also Virtualdub schedgulers, but there are and some virtualdub modifications with built in schedgulers, which is a better option if you ask me.
Unfortunatelly, there are cards which simply don't work with those programs. Those cards are few models, but it seems that they have plenty sales, just enough to make them look a lot between users of our scene. On that occassions, you have to search other alternatives, like TheFlyDS . But search for those solutions, only when the well known freeware programs don't work for you!
