  1. Hello, I am having a problem putting a 700mb divx avi on a VCD. I tried with toast, however, no sound. I tried ffmpegx under the VCD preset, no sound again (it gave me a m1v I havent tried burning it, just no sound in VLC) . I used divx doctor, it gave me an audio error that it got truncated. I tried mencoder to the best of my ability and got a truncated video file. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks alot!

Hi, an m1v has no sound anyway. It sounds like your ffmpeg processs stopped after doing the video. Which suggests a weird sound format in your avi.

When you drop the file on ffmpegX, what info does it give about the file (above the top box where you type the filename)? You need to find out what audio it has.

PS Don't forget that your 700MB divx will expand to fill at least 2 VCDs, possibly 3.

  3. This is what I get when I put it into ffmpegx:
VIDEO: DIVX, size: 544x288, 23.976 fps, 850 kbps
    AUDIO: mp3, 48000Hz, 128 kbps.

Hrm that's odd, mp3 should be fine. Have you watched the avi all the way through yet? Is there any sound in quicktime player? or only in VLC?

If you have and there were no audio problems then I'm all outta ideas. I'd suggest going to the ffmpegx forum on this website and posting your ffmpegx log (click the blue 'i' button after ffmpegx has finished).

  5. When I play the original avi in QT, there is no sound. When I play it in VLC, there is sound. However, when I burned it onto a VCD with Toast 6, there was no sound at all. Also, after ffmpegx was done, there were no errors, my movie just had no sound.

And you're sure that ffmpegx produced an m1v and nothing else? The m1v is just the video, there should be another file for the audio...

  7. I'm 99% percent positive thats all I got. I'll run it again soon just to be sure under the VCD preset. Any changes I should make to that?

    Feels like playing ping-pong

If you're sure it didnt produce an audio file the first time you could try checking the 'decode with mplayer' box in the options tab.

Don't forget to save your log (the blue i) so you can post it.

  10. oh boy i got a huge error, it didnt even start. These are with the settings you said I should use.

**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to open file /Users/myname/Movies/Thirteenbest.mpv for reading.

(I'll edit it to leave the important parts. Just not sure what is and what isn't)

*EDIT* Just took out my name and gave you the important part.

So it didn't even start with Mplayer? I only meant to try that if Quicktime definitely didn't work. Try quicktime again, see if it starts, and save the log.

I suggested you save the log so you can try posting it over in the ffmpegx forum and ask Major to look at it. I'd start with the quicktime one though.

    just for kicks try this...
    1. doctor the file so it plays audio in quicktime
    2. use EXPORT and set it to toast vcd
    3. let that puppy run and see if that mpeg file has any sound
    [which it should]

if all is to your liking, use VCDTOOLSX and do mpeg -> .bin and you can burn the VCD

  13. I finished running it with ffmpegx and got a .m1v , a .wav , and a .mp2 file. I have NO idea what to do from here. Thanks for the help.

P.S. - To Galactica, I tried to doctor it but it gave me a "truncated audio" error

Try using the 'tools' tab in ffmpegx and browsing to your m1v and mp2. Choose VCD in the pull down menu and click author.

  15. ok, i get my m1v.mpg file and open it in VLC. No sound. I'm gonna try using the .wav file with it.

*EDIT* I used both sound files and did what you said. i get the .m1v.mpg file and opened it in QT and VLC. No luck on either. I'm not getting any sound.

Is there any sound if you just play your mp2 file on its own?

Are you selecting the m1v in one browse box and the mp2 in the other? Then click author?

I thought you could click author straight off, perhaps try clicking mux as VCD first, then browse to the mpg that creates and click author as VCD.

open your .mp2 and see if there is any audio in that.

  18. ok, i muxed the .mp2 and .m1v and got this error:

**ERROR: [mplex] Need to split output but there appears to be no %d in the filename pattern /Users/myname/Movies/ThirteenBest.mpg

i opened that file and about an hour through, the audio went out . Any Ideas?

*EDIT* I put oth of those audio tracks in itunes. bad news. one is 51 minutes, the other, 70. However, the movie is 100 minutes long. I am starting to think that it is the source material thats the problem. Ideas? again... hehe

im afraid to say you may have to accept the fact that this divx is bad....

If it were me, my next step would be to try mpeg2works avi to dvd function. see what that does with the file....

otherwise, i smell in the wind an app that might work.. but its not out yet so you would have to wait and even then if the file is messed up it too probably wont work!.

    Hrrrrm.

So the audio was OK for an hour and then it stopped working? That doesn't fill me with confidence Was this the 'decode with quicktime version'? Got the log?

I'm starting to think Galactica may be right, your divx has become corrupted somehow. This is pretty rare really, unlucky for you!

(In the time I've been trading posts with you I've converted about 1.5gigs of divxs into svcd, using ffmpegx, - just so you know that ffmpeg DOES actually work very well most of the time).
