  1. Hi, recently got access to a optibase movie maker 200s capture card. In the properties of the capturing program you can select DVD complient and it sets everthing up for you aside from the video bit rate. The file it creates is a .mpv . I know nothing about how to make this a into a dvd that will play on a standard player. Aren't dvd video files .vob or something? Can I just burn the .mpv file with nero 5.5?

What do I have to do to make my dvd? Is there any cheap software that works well and you would recommend?

    Thanks

It's a video MPG file. Have you tried playing it?. MPV usually means without audio. Try downloading VideoToolBox to see what the attributes are. If the file is DVD compliant, you need authoring software to format it to DVD standard files (VOB's, etc.). Try a trial download of TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Is your optibase movie maker 200s capture card an express or a basic (just curious). Both seem to offer output as a program stream (audio + video together like mpg) or as elemental streams (video mpv and/or audio mpa).

Can you check your output (capture) settings and make sure you have the right output specified. I don't know how the software refers to it. Probably something like program, mpeg2, mpg, or something like that. Your output file should not be just an mpv.

  4. Its an express card. I can capture mpeg2 and it will have the mpg extention. Do I have to check the dvd complient box to burn to dvd? or could I just record with mpeg2?

Authoriing programs like MovieFactory-3 and some others will not require re-encoding IF the MPG file is DVD compliant. Not knowing the software that you have it's hard to say what their version of compliant is or isn't. Can you control the capture parameters (resolution, bitrate) if you check the box or does it do everything for you. It that were the case, you can easily make it compliant yourself so I would not check the box. If you can check the box and still set quality levels (resolution and bitrate), then I would check the box.

    Is that confusing ??.

  6. You can only change the video bit rate if you check a dvd complient.

Part of what I'm trying to figure out is what files you need to burn a dvd. So far I can make a mpg file or a mvp file. I downloaded a trial version of nero 6 and that has two folders to make a dvd. Video_TS, and Audio_TS. This just confusess me. What am I suppose to put into these?

Do I have to process the mpg or mvp file with another program before I burn the dvd? What do I need to do this? How do I burn an mpg or mvp movie with nero 6?

    Thank you
