  1. Hi,

Here's my situation, I've recorded a concert to DVD from a TV broadcast which I had on video tape. I did this with a Philips standalone DVD writer.

What I want to do, is now that I've recorded it, I want to cut the commercial breaks out, is that possible, and what software (preferably freeware!) is there that can do it. I have a DVD writer drive on my PC and have no problems making copies with DVD Shrink.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers

  3. what if the recording is vob files ripped straight from the dvd? can the same thing be accomplished? if not, how can you convert the vob files(s) to mpg and make sure not to lose quality?

  4. mpeg-vcr from www.womble.com

It will handle mpeg-1's, mpeg-2's and vobs. Editing is frame precise, and it does not re-encode when you save the file (to a DDVD compliant mpeg-2).

It is a limited time trial offer, but I have found it very well worth the dollars.

It will do exactly what you want.

Womble accepts VOB's (and VRO's) and outputs them to mpeg. You need to re-author if you want to put them back on disk.

You can also use virtualdub-mpg and it seems to do the same thing as womble but its free.

  7. If you're familiar with DVDShrink then you should be familiar with it's Reauthor mode. The easiset way to cut commercials is to use the start frame/end frame function. Fastest method, no re-encoding.

Say you have a video with 4 commercials....load main movie, set start frame at beginning, set end frame at fade to 1st commercial. Then load main movie again, set start frame at fade from 1st commercial to movie, set end frame at fade to 2nd commercial....etc.

You'll chop out 4 commercails and end up with a dvd with 5 tracks.

    couldn't be much simpler
