nero picks up my dvdr as an image drive?????????

i am using nero 5.5 and have just installed a lite-on 851s dvdr.now nero picks up my device as an image drive.i can watch dvd`s through my lite on but can not burn them? the only discs i got with it was power dvd xp and my dvd software,neither contain the driver for it.neither driver guide or lite-ons main site?????? please help

Can you go up to the main menu (tools, I think) and "Choose Recorder".

Let me guess - your version of Nero came bundled with one of your old drives, right? The same thing happened to me when I switched from TDK to Pioneer. Your version of Nero will only work with the burner it came with.

GREAT answer YngwieJM, I had forgotten all about some Nero OEM versions being locked to one burner. Pretty crappy for a guy who just wants to upgrade his burner.

Maybe my memory is failing but didn't you get a message saying something like "this version can only be used with the burner it shipped with" or something like that. I seem to remember getting a message like that when I swapped my two burner.

tomoftenville, can you give us more information. Did your Nero come with your old burner (if I remember the sleeve has a sticker on it saying "can be used with this burner only".

This happen to me
Nero 5.5 was picky if theres a diffrent burning software on your pc.
So if you have diffrent burning software try uninstall it.

i borrowed nero 5.5 from a freind of mine.he had a creative cdr and i have a samsung cdr.nero worked fine with both drive`s.all i have done is change my cdr to a dvdr and it is only picking up as an image recorder.

nero 6 detects my dvd drive bnow need an author tool to create vob files.thanks for your help
