  1. After using the Toshiba SD-3950 (my first DVD player) for several weeks, I've just now realized that it does not allow the user to pause or fast-forward MP3s. Why any manufacturer would omit this basic feature is beyond me.

I'd like to see dvdrhelp include this feature in its DVD player reports. Which players support MP3 fast-forward? I'd like to know, because I'm likely to be shopping for one, if I can return the Toshiba (which is otherwise a very good $60 player).

Can anyone recommend a player that offers this feature?

    Some do and don't.
Take an MP3 disc to the store and try each one.

  3. The Compacks DVD5000 had this feature and that was Mediatek MT1379 based so perhaps other mediatek models have this feature.

I have an Ebench KH6777 dvd player which is based on a zoran valddis 6 chipset and it doesn't have this feature.

I think you need two things, a fairly upto date chipset and a firmware written to support this feature. The Compacks DVD5000 seems to have a standard mediatek firmware and I think the firmware on mediatek players doesn't vary very much so I would have thought you were safe to buy another MT1379/MT1389 based player and get this feature.

Perhaps something like the AMW P80L?
