Did the searches promise. Formac video capture device. Capturing to DV/PRO. The movies and sound play fine in quicktime but no sound when importing to iMovie. Tried coverting to DV stream no luck. Checked all the system prefs everthing seems fine. Also I can take the same clip and they come into iDVD fine. Any ideas, thanks.

I know you said you checked the prefs, but did you check the sound level slider in the GUI or the audio-track checkboxes (timeline view - far right) in iMovie?

Both channels are checked and the volume is cranked.

Well, since the sound works in the other apps, iMovie is the problem. Delete the iMovie prefs (.plist) to see if that helps - if not, reinstall it.

You might check to see if the very top box is checked. That is the sound that is "embedded" in the DV clip. I had the same thing happen to my daugher's movie and it drove me nuts. -
iMovie defaults the output of sound to your firewire device. Try turning off your Formac to make sure that the only thing iMovie sees as an audio out is your Mac's internal sound. This frustrated me to no end when it happened to me.
