Am looking to use a Nero burning ROM to burn DVD's using DVDShrink, and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the best, simplest, and least buggy version of Nero. I can get a copy of any of them back to v4 thru v6. What has been your experience with these?

    Thanks

  7. I'm using 6.0.0.11 here. no problems ever. its hit or miss though. all the Nero 6 version seem to have bugs based on the configuration of the system in question. I've a few friends using the same version with various problems.

  8. They have updates way too often for my taste...I burn audio cds with nero and storage discs all the time, but have had a few too many issues with dvd burning to continue using it...

I use 5.5.10.54, it works with my P106. Don't upgrade unless you really need the driver for a newer drive. 6.X only when I have no other choice.

    Thanks for the input -
I found many of the old Nero programs at the following download site: http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero

Question: Are oldversion.com's versions of Nero fully functional, or are they just trial versions?

So far, my v6.3.0.2 seems to be running fine. It seems to be conventional wisdom here that v5.5.10.xx is preferred to v6, but can someone explain why in detail?

  13. Tried Nero 6, but went back to 5.5.10.56 after having problems with on the fly copying.
Originally I had no problems with 5.5.10 xx ... changed to 6.3.0.2 and kept getting error "Cannot copy this disk to a DVD"
Reverted back to 5.5.10.56 and no such problems.

I get this on 5.5.10.20 and 5.5.10.54 on one PC .. the DVD-ROM is on the Ultra ATA card and burner on motherboard, cannot change it. Not sure what causes this.

I may actually have to jump onto the RecordNow bandwagon for this one system, assuming it's software and not hardware related.

Strange ...... I thought it was a glitch in XP, as I hadn't done a fresh install for some time, but reinstalled to new HDD a few weeks back, put v.6.3.0.2 on and still couldn't do on the fly copies, so uninstalled as I said, put 5.5.10.56 on and hey presto ..... so I assume it's Nero 6 and not me.

    DVD-ROM is Primary Slave
    Burner is Secondary Master

I had no problems with it, except "on the fly" copying (which I tend to use quite a lot), other than that it performed well.

I had Nero 6.3.0.3 installed mainly because I wanted to try out NeroVision. Not much of a match for Moviefactory-3 or Womble MPEG-VCR.

I've switched back to 5.5.10.28 although from what I've read almost anything above 5.5.10.19 seems to work fine.

  20. Went to 6.3.1.6. All of a sudden, coaster city! Erratic, but it complains about brand-new disks, doesn't matter which brand. I've alerted their tech support, but I have not much faith in them.

Luckily I have DVDDecrypter and DVDFab to burn DVD's with, and MusicMatch to burn CD's with...

I guess Recode still works, that's something, I suppose.

My Aopen DRW4410 came with 5.5.10.31 which enabled bitsetting for this drive, it works great, however if I update it to any newer version I lose the bitsetting...I'll stick with 5.5.10.31.

  22. Does Nero 5.5 activate the buffer underrun protection with the Pioneer 105? The message box says it does when burning CDs but it doesn't when burning DVDs. I tested for buffer underrun protection once by hammering the PC while burning a DVD and got a coaster.

I use XP and have only had 1 problem ever with Nero 6.0.0.15 - it didn't like my Pioneer 105 at all. Using 6.0.0.23 and going great guns.
    If in doubt, Google it.
