    HELP!

    I use SBC Yahoo DSL as my ISP. Internet Explorer 6.0 is the current version in my computer.

    I used to be able to open certain sites which have their IP address beginning with 192. Suddenly, 2 weeks ago, I could no longer open these sites. Some examples are www.lexmark.com, www.kodak.com and www.asia-hotels.com. I know these sites have been up and running because I can open their sites using my laptop with the same ISP.

    I have tried everything I could imagine to no use. Running virus test, deleting cookies, resetting security, privacy levels in IE, etc. I also tried to run DOS. After I typed in the command "ping www.lexmark.com", the request were rejected.

    What is wrong with my computer? IE? SBC YAhoo DSL? or all?

    The IP range starting with 192.168 is usually a "local" range reserved for routers that use NAT address translation. The default router address on the LAN side for Netgear, Linksys, and D-Link routers is 192.168.0.1. If you type that in you get the router admin screen. Lexmark is 192.146.101.200 so that shouldn't be a conflict (it isn't on mine).

    I can get to Lexmark with IE by typing in either www.Lexmark.com or 192.146.101.200. IF I ping from the DOS prompt it times out.

    I realize this doesn't solve your problem but may point you in the right direction. Have you added a router recently and if so are any address ranges blocked.

    Another thing you might try is to find your HOST file which is usually in your Windows\System32\Drivers folder (depend on operating system). You can put a specific entry in there that resolves the host name (Lexmark) to the IP address.

    <D-Link router>

    What a revelation!

    I remember now. About 2 weeks ago, I bought a D-Link wireless router and tried it on my PC. I simply connected my DSL modem to the D-Link router then connected the D-Link router to my PC Adapter card. When it did not seem to work because I could not connect to my ISP, I took it back to the store. Perhaps, the router messed up my DSL modem setting?

    I will have to write to SBC Yahoo DSL to see if this could be the reason.

    Thanks
