AC3 audio problems in virtual dub

Forgive me for being a noobie, but here we go.

i have an .avi episode that i am trying to convert to svcd for playing on my dvd player. the first step to doing this is to extract the audio. when i do this in virtual dub, i get the error:" no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format". this is after i have selected no compression, full processing mode, and changed the sampling rate to 44100, as per the instructions in the avi-svcd guide.

i looked around on the site for some help, and discovered that gspot can tell you if the audio is ac3. when i click render, it says ac3filter, so i assume that means it is ac3.

i downloaded some programs in the tools section to help extract the audio, but none worked. PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE IS A WAY TO GET AROUND THIS.

i use besweet all the time for pal-ntsc conversions, so is there a way to change the audio in there? if so, how?

did you try the ac3 acm decompressor? you can also use goldwave if you have installed the ac3 filter.

when i went to install the ac3 acm decompressor, a huge warning from windows came up saying that it could damage the system as it was not designed for xp. if you do not think this is an issue then i will try it again.

as for the guide you suggested, those are all the things i do [my file has 2 channels] the error comes up when i go to file-save wav. it will not let me.

i have done many many conversions, have run into many problems, but never with virtual dub, that is why i am so confused.

ac3 acm decompressor wont damage xp. it works fine here. ac3 could also be 2 channels...and gspot said it was ac3.

i will try what you suggested with the ac3 acm decompressor. hopefully it is an easy to understand program to use. i tried using the headac3ce or whatever its called, but it only lets you load audio, not something with video. does goldwave do what i need to have done?

Now you load your video file in Virtual dub and you don t get the error message anymore... You can then work with it

What I used to do is get Virtualdub AC3, extract the AC3 track, work on it with HeadAC3he and remux it to the video using Virtual dub Mod or Nandub for instance.

With the AC3 ACM decompressor you should be able to skip such steps altogether.

your having a problem with ac3 audio in virtual dub - i think because your trying to save in full processing mode!!. Click on audio and direct stream then sav your wav file.
