Just an FYI about 2 weeks ago I was reformatting my C drive when for some reason my D drive (backup drive) got wiped out. Still have no clue how it happened but windows say it as a raw drive ready to be partitioned.

Long and the short was took it to a friend of mines work at his request (he is a programmer and network admin at the small company he works for) and sure enough in just a little over 24 hours he had it all back.

Used a piece of software called Easy Recovery Pro. Of course its really not MUCH of a tip for a general site because I looked it up on the web and nearly fainted when I saw the $1500 price tag. But I'll be damned if it didn't get about 4 years of accumulated stuff back for me.

BTW its the one made by Ontrack, not Mcafee, and I'm not sure if the two are connected.

    Better story, here.

I lost 150 of 160 gig Maxtor. 7 gig partition was accessible, rest of drive was invisible even to fdisk.

Ran Norton Diskdoctor for some reason, said I have a corrupted MBR, do I want to repair? In about 15 minutes all the data was back, entire drive was restored.

    Happy camper here.

    Cheers,

    George

  3. I lost about 10 Gigs of data that was on a backup drive when I was doing a linix install on my primary drive with the secondary drive still plugged in. I still have no idea why it affected my secondary drive but I used the same software as your friend did and got most of my data back. The only problem I had was that my mp3 collection was really screwed up. Each file would play 4 or 5 songs that had originally been 1 file per song. Another problem I had was that I could not recover the file names ... did your files get recovered with the filenames still intact? My file names were numbered.

yeah it got EVERYTHING file names and all. Heck there was some work directories he had recovered off it that I had deleted weeks ago. Actually had to sort though what I was wanting to save and what I had already deleted.

  6. I was making a 3th partition (E:\) , taking space from C:\, and it hid the D:\ partition . I thought all my data was lost, but after a while, partition just re-appeared .
