I have a one hour video clip that I captured in MPEG2. I want to cut it down to just a 5 minute clip.
First, I just ran it through tmpgenc plus (leaving it in mpeg2), but the audio was way out of sync. I then opened virtual dub and ripped the audio as a wav file. I then went back into tmpgenc plus and tried to cut the file again (again in mpeg2), but this time I used the wav file as the audio source. The audio was again way out of sync.
Am I doing something wrong here? Can anyone give me some tips? Thanks.

Afternoon
most people find womble mpeg2vcr works really well for this sort of thing. I've found some problems when trying to cut / edit an mpeg 2 file in the form of a VRO file, (dvd ram recorded video), but mostly this works perfectly.
Some things you may want to let the forum know if you continue to have problems:
Source of the mpeg, e.g. captured on an ATI card/recorded on a dvd recorder
Format of the audio: mpeg2 with mpeg audio/ac3 (dolby digital) audio/ PCM audio
Source of the programme: are you converting from a "noisy" source such as vhs that can cause dropped frame problems which do not become apparent until you cut the mpeg loosing the "padding" stream within it and throwing the audio out of sync.
Cheers

Get MPEG2CUT. Everything else sucks! I think I downloaded over 10 programs to edit some clips from my PVR-250 (even the upgrades to tools that came with it). Everything either was painfully slow or trashed the audio sync except for MPEG2CUT. Even TMPGen messed up the audio. By the way it is free and it works with AC3 files.

Is there a reason it had no audio?

The old version 1.x of Mpeg2Cut has a lot of compatibility problems.
Try version 2 - Mpg2Cut2 - which resolves a number of issues from Version 1, and adds a number of new features.
Download the latest version of Mpg2Cut2 at

If you are having problems with Version 1,
then give Version 2 a try.
For cutting VOBs, I recommend the following::
- "menu - Output - Preamble - MAXIMUM"
- Also use "PVAStrumento" from Offeryn if cutting multiple clips..
