Stopped by the local office depot and saw the LITEON 411S on clearance sale $89.00. Been thinking of getting another dvd burner a cheap one to install on my pent 3 933 pc. Would appreciate any comments on the LITEON brand. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen their ad. Is that without rebate? And is that up to Saturday the 20th, or beginning Sunday.

Would not mind getting one for one of the grandkids.

Already have a 411 and an 851 in two of my own machines..

Hate to wait for yet another rebate check.
    Cheers,

    George

gmatov I don't think it's in their Sunday ad. I had checked their website when I got home and did not see LITEON 411 listed. There was a big clearance sale sign in the showcase that said, "CLEARANCE $89.00". I'm thinking they probably are wanting to get rid of them to make room for another brand or something. I like Office Depot because they always have good clearance sales as well as their regular sale items.

I think you've talked me into getting one of those LITEON 411 dvdrw drive.

I've read that the 411 has problems using Nero. What burning software do you use with your LITEON dvd burner?

I have no trouble with Nero 5.5.10.54 and the 411.

When I swapped a bad 811 for a good 851, Nero didn't see it. Had to use Nero6.3.XX, and now it's fine.

    Cheers,

    George

I'm reasonably happy with the 411s I bought. The current firmware supports bitsetting, though sometimes I have a little trouble with their tool not recognizing that a disc is in the drive. It comes with the usual assortment of software - PowerDVD, RecordNow DX, and some crappy DVD authoring package I never touched (MyDVD or something like that). It also came with one 4x DVD+R and one 4x DVD+RW.

I've heard that older versions of Nero had trouble with this drive, but newer releases should be fine. If you have trouble you can just use the bundled RecordNow DX, it works just fine for me but doesn't have the fancy extras that Nero offers (I don't need them, personally).

I've also seen that some people are having trouble with DVD-R/W with the last couple firmware releases, even though DVD+R/W works fine. Other people seem to be using -R without any trouble at all. I can't speak to that, I don't really burn DVDs very much and the ones I have now are +R.

  10. Office depot is clearing the drive out. The Sony 530 oem known as the DW18u is selling for $105. So I will probably pick that up tomorrow.

budz, remember to get the latest firmware for your burner,it greatly improves dvd-r burning and lets you use the bitsetting tool.

I did upgrade the firmware and downloaded the bitsetting tool from LiteOn download site. I've burned 2 tdk dvd-r's so far. Will be trying out some Imation dvd+r and see how the bitsetting tool will do. Thanks for the replies!

  13. kinda funny that our office depot here don't sell lite-ons. We mostly sell Sony external dvd writers as well as internals. And also I/O magic drives as well.

This is the first time I've ever seen LITEON drives at one of the local Office Depot stores. I'm going to go back in a few days just to see how many are left. I heard from a former Office Depot employee that they drop the prices on items when they want to get rid of stock. I'd buy another one if the price gets cheaper.
