Well i compressed the 2 discs in HQ with dvdshrink.

I had to lose a couple of the audio tracks but not important.

It uses false vob info and hence dvd2one and dvdshrink convert it oversized.

I used dvdshrink to get it down with some major fiddling.

    Movie only should be easy.

If you want THE best quality use CCE but it isn't easy to do it with all extras.

That was the US version - dunno about the UK version.

  4. I backed up a US version too, but i only backed up the movie only. The movie (only) fits on a 4.7GB disk, if i remember correctly.

  5. have backed up both my widescreen and standard screen versions on separate dvdrs...cannot tell them from the originals if I remember correctly main movie only backups were UNcompressed (100% level) in Shrink. but i could be wrong.

  7. Not trying to hijack the topic here, but there's a reference to "false Vob info".

Can anyone point me to a thread or site that explains this in more detail?

I have been wondering why DVDShrink can't compress some DVD's to fit on a DVD-R.

    Thanks.

if you backup only the main movie what would be the compression rate? i think you are attempting to backup the whole disc, right? also you might cut the credits too to increase the bitrate for the movie. Consider only the main movie if you want a quality backup.

Using CloneDVD you can select the option to "Preserve Menus" and also just select the portions of the disc that you want to keep. This is the only reason that I use CloneDVD to rip, any other time I use DVDShrink.

I wanted to keep the menus too when I did mine, but they really kicked up the compression. I think they're a few hundred megabytes, which to me is just plain ridiculous for a bunch of menus. Backed up only the movie with no compression at all using CloneDVD.

Using IC7, compressing all the extras down to 30%, keeping only the english audio and english subtitles the main movie was compressed at 77% and looks great.

The movie itself is only 4.03 GB so a movie only doesn't require any compression.
