Every time I burn a dvd, the whole system locks up
I have to hit the reset/power button because ctrl alt delete doesnt work
I switched from a 300 watt power supply to 450 , same problem
I installed varius firmwares (1.33 , 1.22 ect), same problem
I got new sticks of ram, and still the same problems.
So im guessing it is my burner dying?
I bring it to my second computer, and when I burn, I get the same problem. It locks up at around 10-70%, i wasted like 30 dvd's in the past month or 2. Burner is a little over 1 year old
system 1-
Windows XP (all service packs up to date)
amd 2500mhz
450 watt power supply
1536 ddr400 ram
80 gb HD (I scandisk&defrag, no problems)
Nforce2 Board(newest drivers)
pxengine & Aspi 4.72 Installed
system2-
Windows XP (all service packs up to date)
amd 1000mhz
300 watt power supply
512 sdram
40 gb HD (no errors)
AV7 motherboard(4-1 drivers installed)
pxengine & Aspi 4.72 Installed
Programs that failed:
Nero 6.3(works sometimes, for very small dvd)
DiscJugglar(burning isos fail)
Dvd Decypter(dvd in iso mode, failed)
Stomp record now 4.50(Global images and data disks failed)
veritas recordnow 4.50(same as above)
sonic recordnow 4.61 delexe(same as above)
sonic recordnow 6.5(same as above)
I remove other programs that might interfear with
eachother, and still no success
my computer is running perfect for for everything else like games, programs ect, Its just the burning that give me issues. I still have the warrenty for it, but before I go return it, Im willing to try anything out to help me fix this problem.
-thanks

I wish i could give u a definate answer man. Im just gonna say what happened with my 104 after 2yrs. Everything was working fine until 1 day i started getting internal error and all sorts of error messages from Nero and Recordnow Max. My system wasn't locking up, just errors at the very beginning of a burn(1-5%). I then took it apart and cleaned the laser with alcohol and presto, it started working fine again. It was too late though, i promised a friend of mine i would sell it if i got it working for $60.
After a year u shouldnt be having any problems like i had, unless you're doing some extensive burning. I mean it seems to me like you've tried everything under the sun.
P.S. I also found that sometimes, even now with with my SonyDru510a and my Pioneer107D.....My virtual drive from Alcohol 120% seems to conflict when burning.(not all the time though) But once i disable it in device manager, it works fine.
Anyways, sorry i couldnt be more help....Hope u figure it out though, good luck! -
only thought that apart from cleaning the drive (you dont have to take it apart) maybe
and only maybe it is codecs clashing.....have you installed any extra ones since you last burned sucessfully regularly...
?
Probably isnt, but just trying to help
