  2. My recommendation would be HDD as master on Primary IDE; DVD Recorder as Master on Secondary IDE; and DVD-ROM as Slave on Secondary IDE.

  3. I always thoought you shouldn't run a rom and a recorder drive on the same ide?

  4. I run the same as Ripper, I was always told never a hard drive and a cd unit on the same ide.
    If it's wet, drink it

  5. I really depends on what you want to do. Only 1 device can be accessed at a time on an IDE channel so it is quicker to transfer data between IDE channels than it is to transfer between drives on the same channel. So if you were to burn data on your DVD burner from your hard drive you would want them on seperate IDE channels. But if you were planning on doing a lot of burning on the fly from a DVD rom to your DVD burner you would be better to put the rom and burner on seperate channels.

I an Ideal world you would run just 1 drive on each IDE channel, for maximum performance.

  6. Craig,

Just to make sure I have it right....

First I rip/capture to my HD then I want to make a dvdr, and maybe make another copy (disc to disc).

So what your saying is HD master primary dvd rom slave , and on ide2 have the dvdburner as master...is this correct?

Also I just noticed that the mb manual says if I am using a amd make sure the fsb is set accordingly to the cpus specs. Well it is 333fsb and there is no mention of 333fsb in the jumpers section of the manual. can anyone help ?

    Thanks in advance

  7. Well you want to transfer from DVD rom to hard drive, and hard drive to DVD burner, and DVD rom to DVD burner, so ideally you would have your hard drive your DVD rom and your DVD burner all on seperate IDE channels, but if you only have 2 IDE channels on your motherboard then this is not possible (one option to allow this would be to install a seperate PCI IDE controller card). Just decide what you will be doing most, personally I would think if you are ripping to hard drive and then burning from hard drive the most then put your optical drives on the secondary IDE with the burner as master. If the majority of what you were doing was burning on the fly then it may be better to put the optical drives on seperate IDE channels. As for the fsb speed go into the bios and set it to 166, the default is probrably 100.

Sure, the advantage of having the burner and rom on seperate channels is they can read/write data simultaneously, You can still burn on the fly if they are on the same channel its just only one device can read/write at a time.

  11. Make sure the power cable that goes from your power supply to the motherboard is seated properly.

Switch on the Power supply on, try again. No good?

Disconnect all the drives, power and data cables. Push Start button again, PSU switch both positions. PSU switch on with "I" side depressed, "O" side is OFF.

Push Reset Button. Pull off two wire connector from Reset pins, short pins with screwdriver, something similar, to get running.

Remove and reseat RAM. Try with 1 RAM module if you have 2.

Once, IF, it starts, shutdown, reconnect drives, you may try one at a time, or all at once. You should flip PSU switch to off to connect anything, as board is always live in some circuits, as evidenced by starting machine with Start Button connected to board, as well as reset switch, and Wake on Keyboard, Wake on LAN, etc.

    Cheers,

    George

  14. Hey everyone, I was wondering if you coudl give me a suggestion on my setup as well because I recently bought a Lite On DVD writer model 411s and every now and then my computer wont boot up. It will say something about DHCP can't start, etc. I don't understand why it would say that (DHCP isn't related to DVD Writer), but then I disconnect my DVD writer and it will boot up with no problem. Hah. So... i was wondering if there is a certain config i shoudl follow. I read the previous postings up top, and thats is like what I have. Also, when I try to burn with DvD decryptor, i get errors. IT doesn't get passed the lead-in. I don' tknow why it does that now, nero still works though. Always count on nero, lol.

Here is what I have at the moment.
    Windows 2000 Pro with SP4
    P4 1.6ghz
    MoBO: Intel D850GB
2 Hard drives (on primary IDE)
1 Dvd Rom (Slave on Secondary IDE)
1 Dvd Writer (Slave... o rmaybe it was Master on PCI IDE Controller Card)
1 CD-R writer (Master on Secondary IDE)
1 250 zip drive (isn't conneted, but I would like) (Would like to be connected to PCI IDE Controller Card)
    1 FLoppy (Floppy Channel)

256mb of ram, and hopefully 512mb more in a few weeks. BTW, can I mix ECC and Non-ECC memory? Will it still read all 712mb. Its Rdram, pc800.

I noticed that comment about the FSB, how can I modify that to help me out? I believe it is currently set at 4x100mhz, and it says the max can be 4x133mhz / 2x 532mhz. Should I change anything here?

Thanks a bunch everyone, I hope I can fix my problem.
    -Ed
    Thx
