  1. Hi
I have caputed a TV programme that I want to stick on DVD using my ADS Instant DVD. I then want to edit out the commercial breaks. I have tried using TMPGEnc to do this but it seems not to recognise audio. Normally I would VirtualDub out the audio as a Wav and use this with the pictures in TMPGEnc, but there is no option for this in the Merge & Cut tool, only in the re-render option - (which I have to use to compress the programme to one disk).
If I compress the file and then try and merge seperately TMPGEnc doesn't recognise the M2V video file it just created. Is there a better (free) tool to use for editing out commercials in MPEG2?
I also have Premiere5.1 but rendering takes sooooo long, I can't be bothered and I've lost my copy of Ulead Video studio.
    Cheers

  2. There is a very good tool for doing this: MPEG2-VCR by Womble.

But it isn't free. And I don't know of any free tool that will edit MPEG-2.

Try Cuttermaran, its the best free alternative there is, and if you did not have to demux to elementary streams to edit I would find it just as good as Womble mpg-vcr.
Just shut up and listen dumbass

TMPGEnc DVD Author is a DVD authoring program that allows you to trim MPEG-2 files that you import into it. This is a totally different and seperate program from TMPGEnc the MPEG-1/MPEG-2 encoder.

TMPGEnc DVD Author seems to work well when doing trimming and keep everything in sync (knock on wood).

I would try it before Womble MPEG2-VCR

Not that MPEG2-VCR is not a good program but if you can get good clean edits with TMPGEnc DVD Author and keep everything in sync ... well at least you are ALSO getting a full blown DVD authoring program to boot whereas MPEG2-VCR is a just and editor.
