  1. I have a question.

What we have right now is an ATI TV Wonder Card and we also bought a Plextor DVD writer. What I want to know is if we use the ATI TV Wonder Card to record things on to the computer, will it be possible to put the recorded things on DVD's?

You will be able to put the files on your dvd writer as long as they are dvd compliant and have been authored by a program such as tmpgenc dvd author.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. So you select the programs to put on DVD, then make menus and all that with the author and then write it?

    Yes :P

TMPG 's dvd author is a popular app for DVD projects. I don't used it because
it is not supported under good old windows 98, and instead, use a lesser
feature app, IFOedit app. I haven't used it for a month or so because I've
ben busy with other important and personal matters, so I'm a bit rusty at
it, but in all the clips I burned to dvd disks, they worked fine. But for a beginner,
I would not recommend something like this. TMPG dvd authro would proba
be your best bet, in the long run. Just read it's documentation and you
    should be fine.

  6. I think I'll just stick to the Roxio thing that the Plextor comes with. Is that any good?

    Nope. Complete crap.

Pick a decent authoring package or be prepared for all hell to break loose.

    Just an honest answer.

  9. Shouldn't I start out with Roxio as a complete beginner who has no idea what he's doing? Or should I still use another one?

What specifically is wrong with Roxio?

Just trust us and don't even attempt to use it ... if you do you will be crying about how bad your video looks.

For the complete beginner look into TMPGEnc

Easy enough (knock on wood) for a beginner but strong enough for us experienced users who want the most out of our videos.

Although having said that I mostly use CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER these days but trust me ... as a beginner that program will confuse you to no end and even though I prefer using CCE I still use TMPGEnc for some projects due to ease of use.

Last but not least ... there are a ton of guides and articles on tihs website covering just about everything and anything you might need to know. Spend time going through them ... testing them out ... in short learn from them.

    Good Luck

The list for "what's RIGHT with it" is shorter.

Also ... I just thought of this ... you can capture direct to MPEG-1/MPEG-2 with an ATI capture card ... assuming you have a fast enough computer.

Again the website for you ... since you have an ATI capture card ... is the Lord of Smurfs

Of course there is plenty of usefull info here just that his website is geared towards ATI capture cards so that would be a good place to start.

    It sucks

It used to trash the operation system and/or other programs
to the extent that disclaimers were issued claiming
void guarantee if Roxio was installed.

But only on some of the pages, I bet. I've been purifying some of the code, but I'm not done yet. I've screwed up just as much as I've fixed the past few days. The menu navigation for the restoration and the "contact us" link is screwed the most. It'll improve one day at a time.

No. The chances of you having conflicts between your ATI software and Roxio's engine are extremely high.
