I've done plenty of PAL to NTSC conversions, but the same annoying factor remains. I get popping in my front left speaker after i do an AC3 conversion..
I've followed the doom9.org guides, and synch is perfect. Sound is good also. The bloody popping and clicking is annoying me..
I'm using BeSweet, and AC3Machine as a front end.

    Am i the only one??
    Any suggestions??

I haven't updated my BeSweet in a long time so I don't know if the same problem persists (sure sounds like it) but in the past the solution was to use the newest BETA version of BeSweet. Only the STABLE version had the popping/crackling sounds.

Besweet doesn't create compliant ac3s so it can cause strange audio on some dvd players. Does it sound bad if you play it on your computer also?

Thanks for the quick replies. Yes, the noise is heard on the computer also. It seems to be the worst in the beginning of any film, but after 20 minutes or so, it disappears. I can't quite explain it...BTW, i'm using Besweet v1.4.

I've had no problems encoding .WAV to .AC3, but that's another story. Perhaps i should be decoding my 5.1, or stereo streams to PCM, and then reencoding to .AC3...

I'm hoping to avoid anymore steps than i absolutely need to..But am willing to do it if that means getting rid of the popping.

Any guides to 6 wav channels back to 5.1 AC3??

    *sigh*

I already told you the most likely solution.

When I used the STABLE version it had the poping/crackling noises. At the time DSPguru said that the STABLE version didn't properly support the PAL to NTSC conversion. He said to use the (then newest) BETA version.

It solved the problem. I haven't had the problem since with ANY of the MANY conversions I have done from PAL to NTSC.

What more could I tell you?

OK let me make it more clear ...

Here is the version of BeSweet that I have ... copied and pasted from the readme.txt file: BeSweet v1.5b18 by DSPguru

Here is the version of the BeSweet GUI that I have again from the readme file: BeSweet GUI 0.6 b76 (23.05.2003)

Here is the version of AC3Machine that I have again from the readme file: The AC3Machine v0.41 by DanniDin & DSPguru.

Use BeSweet GUI as a front end when you have 2.0 AC-3
Convert this first to a WAV without dong the FPS change. Then do the FPS change by going from that WAV to a new WAV. Then do with it as you want. It will be DVD compliant as is or you can convert to MP2 or AC-3 ... just don't use BeSweet for 2.0 AC-3 encoding.

Use AC3Machine as a front end when you have 5.1 AC-3 as it will allow you to go from 5.1 AC-3 to 5.1 AC-3 using the FPS change without errors.

I have a Pioneer DVD player that doesn't like BeSweet 2.0 AC-3 so I use something else for that but for the 5.1 AC-3 to 5.1 AC-3 method (using BeSweet and AC3Machine) it works fine. Thank god since I don't know any other EASY way to do 5.1 AC-3 to 5.1 AC-3 with the FPS change.

Thanks for ignoring me the first time :P
