I have a Maxtor 120gb hard drive that I have added as an additional hard drive. Now every couple of weeks after the computers running fine I turn it off and when I turn it back on again and try and get into my D drive where all of my stuff is stored it says D drive is not formatted would you like to format? But it is formatted and It was just working fine yesterday. So the only thing I can figure to do is to reformat it and lose everything, and ths keeps happening over and over again. Does anybody know why or how to fix it??

Personal experience is what you will hear mostly.
Some dislike Maxtor, some Seagate and some WD.
I buy WD mostly. No problems here but others have.
Maybe it would be best to look at drives with the longest warranties. 3year instead of 1year.
Your problem with your PC not seeing the info on the drive isn't because of brand. Some may say it is more likely with one than another but again that is their personal experience talking. A bad drive or a poor formated drive can do that.
See if you can exchange it if it is under warranty or within a return policy. -

just a data point. I had a maxtor 30gb drive with a 3 yr warranty (did not know or remember at the time) but snooping about on the web one day I ran across a subtle reminder on the Maxtor site (while looking for a replacement drive). I did not even have my sales slip but their site gave the house away by saying that the following serial numbers were within the warranty period. And mine was. So I called them and they sent me a replacement (paid for the shipping too, both ways). All I had to do was sent the old drive back to them in their prepaid mailer.
What else is better?
Maxtor for me....... -
Sounds like something has corrupted your partition table entry for D: drive.

Oh, then I'm not that mad... Becuase the Maxtor hard drive I had, I had for about 5 years.
But I had heard about them from friends and a couple of relatives that Maxtor wasn't really all that good.
I stick with Western Digital, though. I also have a Seagate. Which makes me want to ask, how good are either one?
