I have ripped DVD's to VCD's and Tmpgenc runs pretty fast (4-5 hours to encode), but I have noticed on the conversions that I have attempted, that I am looking at 15+ hours. I see posts with people saying it takes them a few hours so my time seems abnormal for a athlon 1.4 w/ 512 megs. Could I possibly be missing a codec or something? I saw it mentioned to get the Krystal codecs I believe. The only one I know i have for sure is the new divx 4 codec.
I have tried ripping the wav, selecting the avi as video and audio, etc and it always starts out at least 12 hours remaining. Any ideas?

Well i have a Dual MOBO and it only takes me 20 - 25 minutes to convert any AVI to VCD. So if you have a Dual MOBO it is alot quicker, all you have to do is go into the TMPGenc settings and have it set to dual CPU's. Next thing you know you are on your way to a faster conversion.

Hi
It really depends on what settings you are using for encodinf. Using CBR (VCD)it should be real quick. I have an athlon 600 and mines acceptable for that.
If you are trying to create XSVCDs or SVCDs and are using MPEG-2, then using 2 pass VBR takes much much longer. My machine takes in excess of 24 hours using this, but you get good quality.
Also check the motion search estimate setting. This adds on time also. -
Interesting. I did find out that if I framserve from VirtualDub, my conversion time goes way down. I don't quite understand why though. The original AVI file was in two pieces. I started converting the first part just through Tmpgenc, and the estimate was 15 hours. I framserved it, and it took around 3 hours. Any ideas why? I do not have much knowledge of DIVX sources. I was guessing something with the compression possibly.

Dam. Is that possable? Takes me about 4 to 6 hours to convert DivX to MPG using TMPGenc with SeVCD templete.

Of course it is possible. I don't even have a dual mobo and it takes me only 10 minutes to convert a avi to mpg, if the avi is short enough
What do I want to say? Even Xtreme can not do any avi>mpg conversion in 20-25 minutes. Obviously it takes longer to convert a 2 hour movie than a 30 minutes clip.
Although VCD has fixed specs, you may use several filters anyway, that will slow down the process even more.
