Hello, it's me again, I've been gone for quite some time!!! Anyways, should I buy a DVD-Writer now and wait about another year to buy "better" DL burners, or should I wait till April-July for a Dual Layer (DVD-9) writer???

Buy what suits your needs best. Do you have a NEED for dual layer? If your main purpose for buying a burner is backing up movies, maybe so. If you plan on mostly using the drive for data backup single layer should be fine. Also, are you ready to shell out the money for not only a dual layer drive, but dual latyer media? Do you know if your devices will be compatible with 1st generation 'home' dual layer media? You can always wait and there will always be something better, current DVD-ROMs can read dual layer discs at 16x, which means that eventually (in theory), you'll be able to burn 16x dual layer. Let's not even get into Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. If you don't already have a DVD burner, get a decent inexpensive one now and learn the ins and outs before you plunk down a wad of cash on DL DVD.

Just my 1 cent. (the rest went to Uncle Sam)

Thanks ViRaL iNfEcTiOn 1!!! I think I'm gonna buy the NEC-2500A right now and wait another year to buy a DL burner!!! But, if you were in my position ViRaL and you didn't have a DVD-burner yet, what would you do???

I'd go ahead and buy a burner now and make use of it while you wait. Why should everyone else have all the fun? I've even thought about an 8x drive myself. The only thing holding my back is a tight budget and the fact that I have so many 1x/2x discs to make use of.
