Netflix wait for DVD's seems to be getting worse. On my list 40% of my renals are on short wait to very long wait. Is this typical now of their service? I'm guessing they are reducing their stock of titles.

Wouldn't surprise me. I haven't used them in years so I can't comment on the current service.

I'm betting they are probably trying to get you into bluray rentals (they still charge extra for bluray right?). Also they probably are trying to steer you into online streaming. God knows they're plastered over the xbox 360 and windows media center and I think they are getting their banners on my ps3 but I haven't noticed them as much as on the 360.

I've not had any problems with DVD from them. Everything in my cue is ready now and I have mostly new releases qued up. I don't have a Blu-Ray so I couldn't comment there but I'd venture a guess that their stock of bluray is not close to the stock of dvds.

And yes they are pushing the hell out of Streaming video. I've seen that netflix add on tv countless times the last week all with major emphasis on streaming video. It's like they are trying to convince you that getting physical discs is the bonus and not the other way around.

I do watch some movies online from them but my speed is not great so I don't get the best picture. Also the selection of play now movies is not the greatest but is definitely better than what it used to be.

Unlike you, all of recent release on my cue are either "long wait" or "very long wait". Some of them took more than 4 weeks to be available.
Also, lately I seem to get lots (up to 5 disk so far this month) of unviewable DVD (i.e. really bad scratched, chipped or cracked disks). As a matter of fact, this afternoon I received a disk that is half broken. I mean the disk is broken completely from the center to the outer edge of the disk.

  6. I have several TV series in my queue. In each case Disc 1 is "Long wait" or "Very long wait", while the remaining Discs are available "Now". Go figure.

Could be due to the region where you live. I'm just thinking out loud here but do you guys that are getting the long wait notices live in largely populated areas.

My way of thinking is that smaller populated areas don't overstress the distribution centers and also there just isn't as many people to fight over the same dvd's.

I don't know. Like I said. I'm just thinking out loud. Tossing ideas out there as to possible explanations.....

Who knows... Maybe I'm just lucky!

Yep they charge you whether you get a DVD/BD or not, they send you the next available movie in your queue.
Blockbuster works the same way but they are just as bad, at least where I live.

But blockbuster lets you go to a store and rent on your account doesn't it? Or at least I was under the impression you can return your disc you got in the mail to the store right?

  13. UPDATE:
Ok check this out, last week I put my account on hold because I was pissed off that all my discs in my queue were "very long wait". I just reactivated it to watch a streamed movie and now all of my discs are available.
The rumors about them throttling must be true, I've had some in my queue for two months and all of a sudden they are available?

Was you able to get "UP" send to you?
I've been waiting for that movie since it was released and haven't get it yet.
I finally broke down and bought a copy of it for my kids..... I was tired of hearing them asking me for it (is it here yet? Is is here yet?....... You know, just like driving in the car)

I rented "UP", it came with no delays. I let it sit for a few days before I watched it in its entirety. I think it must be the copy you finally got a chance to see.

I bought "UP" on blu-ray for $10.00 using a coupon from Disney a few months ago. I found it on some online deals site. I was surprised as hell that Wally Worlds accepted the coupon. That was such a deal to get the Blu-ray 4 disc pack of "UP".

Netflix has always held back dvd movies if you return them quickly, in other words the turn around is fast. So to slow you down they make you wait. Thank goodness when Netflix came to Honolulu they got a warehouse here. Otherwise the shipping would come from the mainland.

  19. Looks like the delays will get much worse for new Warner Brothers DVDs:

Netflix, Warner Bros. agree on delayed DVD release

    http://www.newsday.com/business/technology/warp-pipe-1.1521604/netflix-warner-bros-agr...ease-1.1689132
Netflix made a deal with Warner Bros. that would put a 28-day delay in renting out the studio's new releases. What it basically means is that for the first 28 days a new Warner Bros. movie is out on DVD, Netflix members will either have to wait another month to see the movie, get it On Demand, buy it on DVD, rent it from the old school rental stores, or turn to piracy.
