  1. i am looking to by a new machine with the sole purpose of copying dvds.....i will not use the machine for anything else...no internet / no office stuff solely dvd recording....i am looking a t a base unit with 256mb, 40gb harddrive and a 2400 AMD processor......will this allow me to copy dvds ok......note the dvs i am copying are not official releases just homemade camcorder stuff i need to distribute to family members so i just need to make exact copies

  2. If you want to capture video from a camcorder, then edit, render to mpeg, and then author and get it ready for burning on DVD media, then this system would struggle. I suggest at least 512MB of RAM. Also use the 40GB HD for the operating system and your other software. Use a second hard drive with minimum 80GB capacity for your video files.

    I would suggest a more powerful CPU as well as a min of 512 Mb Ram. Maybe a P4 3.0 Ghz? (if i am not mistaken prices have dropped lately).

    Video encoding-processing is a CPU intensive task.

  5. i will only be using the pc to copy the original dvd....i use my standalone to make the original but i then just want to burn copies......do i still need something with 80gb and 512mb....i am just making copies from a dvd disc not using the pc to capture........

  6. in this case NO, 256 and 40 it's more than fine, even an 1700 AMD is ok.

    If you are only going to be using yr pc for copying then, min specs will be more than sufficient!
    I have an old Celeron 650, 192 Mb Ram laptop and it burns just fine with an external firewire Pioneer A-06. A 40 Gb HDD would be OK too.
