A friend purchased a computer at a local show where they assemble them while you wait. He was supposed to get an xp3100 but has found it to be an xp3000.

I've tried searching the AMD site, but it didn't seem very easy to find the info. Is there a significant difference between these processors?

    Thanks.

it depends, 333mhz or 400mhz fsb?, 2.167 gighz or a little more than that?

overall, probably not a big difference, but if he didn't get what he paid for, then make them fix it!

  7. I don't know, those shows are pretty bads with counterfeit/remarked chips, but what kind of person would advertise a sytem with a non-existent chip?

  8. Just to let you know that there is a 3100+ AMD cpu that is factory tuned from ECS, the k7vmm3,it is fairly new and I own one.

Factory Tuned? Sounds like Factory Overclocked to me. Matter of fact a quick google search showed nothing on that part nubmer other then a system board... like I said check with AMDs site, its the final word. The chip doesn't exist unless its over clocked and renamed.

Take it from someone who was just out shopping for the higherend Athlon XPs, there is no AMD offical XP 3100+

There is a 3000+ that I think has 2 different bus speeds depending on which you get, and a 3200+ that is a 400mhz FSB chip. But no 3100+ unless its either an overclocked 3000+ or an underclocked 3200+.

Update to both threads with the 3100+ cpus.

I found 3 references to it on the web.

    1) someone selling one on ebay, could mean anything
    2) what appears to be a CPU road map thats old enough to not include the 3200+ on it. and...
    3) An article talking about how HP is selling an Athlon *64* 3100+.

Beyond that I find squat and on top of it, ECS website has nothing either.
