  1. I converted an .avi file to a low quality 500MB MPEG file for my DVD and after I burnt it with Ulead Movie Factory 3 I put it in my DVD player and the picture came up with all these blurry squares all over.

    Please Help!

  2. What bitrate/resolution/MPEG format did you use?

  3. You used the 'Red X in Box' scheme. I see...

Try again, and let's see what happens.

  5. ARRGGHH!!!

    Avg. Video Bitrate : 2949 kbits/sec
    Audio Bitrate : 384 kb/sec
    Estimated File Size 503.90 MB

That is the settings i get with TMPG.

  6. That didn't work, either. It takes me to the homepage of www.freehomepages.com...

  7. That bitrate is low if you're using 704x480 or 720x480 MPEG-2. If there's a lot of movement in each frame you're going to get macroblocking.

If you need to go that low, try Half-D1 (352x480) with the same bitrate and see if you like the results.

  8. The reason im going so low is because I want alot of my X-Men TAS episodes on one DVD. I tested the DVD in my pc's DVD and my ps2 and it works perfectly.

  9. I'm assuming macroblocking is the little blocks on the video?

  10. Yep. That's macroblocking!

That's the tradeoff you get when you lower the bitrate, which is why I suggested the Half-D1 resolution. Try it. I use 352x480 for satellite captures ever day and the results are fine.

If you want to keep your resolution at Full-D1, you might try capturing at a higher bitrate (at least 5.0) and then use DVD Shrink to make your episodes fit on one disc. Just use Deep Analysis and your results should be pretty good.

Now, as for why it looks fine on the PC and PS2, but not on a DVD player? You've got me there. I don't know anything about PS2.

  11. What is this Half and Full d1?

  12. I have the files in .avi format and I used TMPG to convert them to the low quality MPEG's.

  13. Full D1 is 720x480, Half D1 is 352x480 (or thereabouts)

  14. Full-D1 is a resolution of 704x480 or 720x480.
    Half-D1 is a resolution of 352x480.

If you're using the 'low-quality' DVD template in TMPGEnc your results are about what I'd expect to hear about. That's why I suggested you change cut your resolution in half. The macroblocking will likely be minimized.

  15. I used the 720x480 encode for TMPG and I ended up with a .m2v and a .wav. So I loaded them into Unlead and it came up as 1.08 gigs on the dvd. If I wanted that I'd just use the Ulead conversion. So is there any other tools that I could use to get the 720x480 low quality encode from .avi to .mpg?

    Thanks!
