  1. hi
I am new and need help. I want to buy dvd x copy gold , but I am told that this program requires phone activation. I am also now made aware that the company that makes this software has suspended sales due to legal issues ,very recently. If I buy this program( on ebay or wherever) will I be able to phone activate?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure about DVD X Copy. But There are other programs out there that are as good or better and woul'nt cost you anything. I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. But there are many others as well.

I guess you've been asleep the last sevaral years and missed the whole DECSS debate!

A US court recently ruled that DVDXCOPY violated the DMCA, a law passed by Congress in the '90s making it illegal to circumvent encryption of copyrighted material. DVDXCOPY contained code that bypassed the encryption of commercial DVDs. I'm sure the company will appeal but the court forced them to remove the product from the market.

The program is available again but without the ability to "backup" commercial DVDs. Of course, all you have to do is download another bit of freely available code from the interent to restore this ability.

Like another user said, programs to do the same thing as DVDXCOPY are available for free via the net. Check the guides here for examples.

  10. Hi all.

golfadkt, before you go down the DVDXCopy road, I'd suggest you give DVD Shrink a try.

Have a look at the guides at DVDShrink.info to get a feel of it.

When i first started out as a newbie, i used DVDXCOPY. i think it rather sucks, especially that annoying 321 disclaimer (warning screen) that displays for about 10 seconds before the movie.

now, i use a combination of dvd decyptor, dvd shrink, dvd fab (freeware version), titleset blanker, ifoedit etc... to make backups.

especially dvd shrink, the best program ive used, also very tweekable tool.

dont get ripped off using dvdxcopy.
