  1. Hi....maybe someone here can help me.

I have an older Pinnacle Studio AV (analog) Version 7 capture card and I am interested in transferring my VHS movies onto DVD. Capturing and editing the video is not a problem. The process of how to then encode and burn the video is where I am stuck.
I have successfully burned videos to a DVD disk, and they will play in my computer's DVD player perfectly. But the same disk will play in my televisions DVD player.... without any sound.

Does anyone here have any experience with this older version of Pinncacle Studios capture card and its editing/encoding programs?

Or if you have alternate suggestions.......

    Thanks.

  3. Hi,
Thanks for replying and sorry it took so long for me to respond. My computer was down as I did some upgrading.

Well, I transfer video from my 8mm camcorder to the Studio AV7 and then edit it and save it. From there, I have options to create a tape, AVI, MPEG (1), SVCD, etc.

If I create an AVI or SVCD, I can simply burn it to a CDR and it plays (roughly) in a DVD player. But not if I create it as an MPEG (1) and burn it to a DVD disc (with Nero).

The MPEG (1) file, prior to burning, will play in Media Player and on my computer's DVD player (Power DVD), but not in my stand alone DVD player (after I have burned it).

I prefer the MPEG picture quality and was hoping I could utilize that instead of AVI/VCD. The option of convering to MPEG 2 is offered but I must purchase that online from Pinnacle. I am willing to purchase an upgrade, but need to know if it will work first.

Are there other options? Even those that exclude the use of the Pinnacle software? Are there better programs that can utilize the Pinnacle capture card and then successfully convert and burn VHS/8mm to DVD?

    Thanks.

  4. I feel that you are missing important step in process. DVD Authoring. You can't just "burn" mpg file to DVD and it wll become DVD-Video.

  6. Pinnacle Studio version 9 - UPGRADE still new and need some time to fix some bugs
TMPGEnc DVD Author - only for authoring but people are reporting good results
