Backup a Backup

I searched this forum for an answer but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. If someone has a link please post it.

I backed up an original DVD (with DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink) and it worked fine. Just for the heckuvit I tried to backup the backup using DVD Decryptor to write an .ISO and then burn the .ISO with Decryptor
but, it freezes about 3/4 of the way through the movie.

Having an enquiring mind I am curious as to why I cannot backup a backup using this method.

does it freeze when your trying to copy the film or does it freeze when watching it. if its when your trying to copy it try copying disk to disk without copying to harddrive first just a thought. and if its freezing when watching do both copies do it. i.e the one you backed up

Copy the backup disc to your HDD , just drag the files into a folder and burn them from there. Works every time when burning backups

Sounds as though it could be bad media.

What disks are you using ?

Do as michael2332 says. Once a DVD has been decrypted, you do not need to decrypt it again. Copy all the files to your HDD and burn them onto a new disk. You can use Nero and the DVD-Video template.

dont use decryptor, use dvdshrink on the original dvd.

That's the easiest way. I've never had a problem doing it that way. Sounds like a media issue to me.

It freezes during playback.

I am using Maxell media. I think it's 02 or 03. It's 4x speed.

I'll try just burning with Nero.

I suggest is the likely the burner and/or buring warez not compatible to each other. Just rip in use file..avoid ISO or any other images if you can.

If your assuming he's using software or movies he got off of warez sites that's BS! And your arrogant! he never said he downloaded illegal software or movies so I don't think it's right to assume that. Just cause people are having problems does'nt mean there doing something illegal!

I don't really care how you got your warez..buy or crack. Just here to put out my two cents. I'm just saying from experience....it's either the burner (HARDWARE) and/or the burning program (SOFTWARE) not compatible.

PC2K1 - the question is about backing up one that's already backed up. IT's ALREADY on DVD...not downloaded.

Did you burn the DVD with Decrypter or with DVDshrink? Since you probably burned with shrink, when you use Decrypter to write the ISO of the DVDshrink burnt disc...you need to go into you Decrypter settings, to the ISO tab and uncheck all those "remove" items, you can leave the "create MDS file" checked.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This backup was made a while back and I was having trouble with Shrink for awhile so I may have used the trial version of CloneDVD to burn it.
If that was the case could I use Decryptor to make and burn the .iso and untick the options you suggested? I like the ease of use with Decryptor.

I don't know if that's your problem but I do know if it's already backed up then all the protections have already been removed, so maybe as you are re-ripping (ISO-ing) it, Decrypter is removing those things again and it doesn't need to.

Like I said before, I have never had a problem going ISO read to ISO write with Decrypter. Even when I've backed up DVD5 discs straight away like that.

Your problem sounds media related. You said the movie freezes...that's media in my experience...try a different disc or different media, you may have just gotten a bad disc.

Sounds media related to me too. I'm no expert, but I backup my backups using DVD Decryptor to copy the ISO and then to burn the ISO to a blank disc. I tried the filemanager method, but it takes forever, but it should work. You should also be able to use DVD Shrink to back it up. If DVD Shrink and/or the file manager is unable to copy at about the same spot you are having trouble with, I would think it is media related.

It was already backed up once dumbass. It's not WAREZ and even if it was warez.....he had to put it in DVD format to make it a DVD to burn the first DVD....

I certainly would not want to tell someone that their burner was dead and they go out and spend $300.00 on a new burner when their only problem was cheap media.

Freezing, skipping are signs of bad media....but is seems like your mind is freezing and skipping quite a bit in this topic....maybe your brain was burnt on princo.

Why don't you do a quick search great wizard and find out how many people on this board use DVD Decrypter ISO read and write to back up DVD5 discs?

My own 811 burned fine with Nero 5.5.10.54, but when I had to replace with an 851, upgraded firmware, Nero didn't see it. So, yes, softwarez (sic) could be the problem. Did, or did the boy not, say he used a few different programs? (If you're over 50, sorry, if you're under , the boy stands. )

You know, we do have a lot of pipple here who speak English as a second language, and do a damn sight better job of it than a whole bunch of our "natives".

He didn't have a problem with the software seeing the DVD-R, and he didn't have a problem burning the DVD-R.

The other one burned and played fine.....

Neuby - for the record I think your problem is media....DVD Decrypter is the simplest operating program in ISO read / write mode....there is not much chance of error when using it.

I have backed up back ups for some time now.(i'm a little anal and like having two back up copies!!)
I have had no problems at all.

I believe 100% that the issue is with the media, whether it be a one-off bad disc, burn or spindle, i have no way of knowing.

I would recommend, trying again with differnet media (dont skimp, quality REALLY shows in price).

PRICEY MEDIA = LASTING BURNS

Some burning software is more compatible with some burners than others are.

He said to just copy to HDD and burn with a good burning program, no iso maybe be best to make an iso of all your converts, burn image, if you can.

To the original poster: Have you tried what has been suggested? Copy to the HDD and burn. Put it on an RW, if you're worried about wasting another R.And, change/try another burning program, even a trial. Nero 6 gives you a 1 day trial, free.

Yes, I suppose you can buy "wares". I wouldn't know. I spend too much on legit software that I can at least go to the maker's site and keep recent with updates. I don't DL from KaZaa and the like, either, nor do I get virus attacks.

You spelled out "warez" in a post. You immediately got your ass jumped for accusing him of pirated software.

I came to your defense by suggesting your writing style might indicate you were not a native English speaker. Nothing wrong with that, a whole hell of a lot of our members are not only not native English speakers, but not Americans (US style) at all, and we have no problem understanding each other. Hell, I must have said a dozen times many of them could give some of us lessons in English.

Some have told me they were slow in responding because they checked some words in a dictionary so as to not offend.

They apologize for making a possible mistake in our grammar. I'd like to see 99% of this country's citizens even try to find the "Next" button to push if they browsed a non English speaking site.

I do not dispute that, I did not think that to be his issue since he had already backed it up once and his issue was with play back although in his original post it was not clear whether it froze 3/4 of the way through burning or playing....he did follow up that question with an additional post clarifying that is was during playback that the disc was freezing.
