  1. Hi,

I just got my DV camera and have mastered capturing, simple editing etc...using Studio 7. I have tried creating an mpeg using studio and then used TMPGEnc DVD author to put it on disk. All works in my DVD player, so I am good there. My question is-how do I get the best quality final product? Should I use Studio to make an AVI and then convert it to mpeg with TMPGEnc? Or will it be the same just making the mpeg directly with studio?

    Thanks!

    Hi steve154,

Some will agree with this, some won't - take the info and you decide. I personally feel that it's best to use the best (as much as I can afford) tools for the right job.

In the case of going from DV cam to DVD, there's numerous steps that I believe warrant their own tools. As a result:

    1. I capture and edit using Adobe Premiere 6.0 (where you use Studio 7 - fair enough)
    2. Then encode using TMPGEnc (there's others considered good too: Mainconcept MPEG Encoder, Canopus Procoder, Cinema Craft Encoder).
    3. Then author using TMPGENc DVD Author (TDA), sounds like studio 7 does it too. There's others: DVDLab, Sonic ReelDVD.
    4. Burn using TDA too, but you can use something like Nero.

...for the steps I take from DV cam to authored DVD. It's not a definitive guide and I'm not claiming it's the best way, but it's the steps I took to get results I was happy with. I have since edited it as I've learnt more (they're in there too).

These two threads will provide useful background reading. Not all will apply, or you may have to relate what others have done to what you're doing. But, in the end, it's all about getting an AVI and the steps to go through to get it looking good on a DVD disc.

    Hope that helps. Good luck...
