Could be either your drive or the DVD you are ripping. Check out the DVD and see if there are any scratches on it. Try another DVD to see if the same happens.

Sometimes I notice a slight skip. I always assumed that it was caused by the layer change on the original dvd. But if I blink, I miss it, so for me it's not an issue.

DVD shrink supposedly removes the layer break. Any playback problem I've experienced in over 500 backups done with shrinks, I've always been able to atribute to media / burning. In the very rare accassion I get a burn failure I usually reboot and retry. Always seems to work on the 2nd try. I never size my backup to the very max. I give myself a 100 Mb buffer. I've had 1 or 2 bad playback problems with Riteks G04 as well as cheapo Princo 1X. Like I said, it has been a very rare occurance.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
must be a layer switch. on dvd box back it should state if it pauses during a layer switch.

Interesting you all bring this up. I have noticed on Bad Boys 2 that there is a scene in the movie 2nd half I think where Will and Martin are talking in a bathroom and my back up skips at that moment. I thought it was a bad edit, but could be the shrink rip...? I thought the original post had to do with ripping then burning. Now I understand.
