  1. Basically ive converted a Divx film to Dvd using TMPGEnc and its taken 13 or more hours to do is this right, for the sort of conversion i'm doing.?

The film itself was Ice Age.

I Tried to do this way>
How to convert AVI/DivX/XviD with AC3 to DVD with AC3
which seemed to take about 2 and a half hrs
But as the Film is recorded in Mpeg-1 layer it hasnt worked.

Is there a way of converting a Divx film in the same way as How to convert AVI/DivX/XviD with AC3 to DVD with AC3
but with With a added Mpeg-1layer.

If it has to take 13 hrs then it does but it seems a bit long

  2. It might help if we knew what computer you have. Depending on the computer, that would be about right. If you were using a 486, 13 hours is very fast.

  3. I'm just curious, why the hassle and heartburn for something you could pick up for $20 and get better quality and a bunch of extras to boot?

Sure, mucking about with this stuff can be fun, but why not spend it on something more novel. Use me for an example, I have spent over 13 hours figuring out the best way to use these AVIs of now cancelled TV shows that aren't available on DVD, or VHS, or even cable anymore.

I don't understand what you mean by that.

Ok, now *I'm* curious. Which show are you referring to? I can't tell you how many shows I have loved that were cancelled.

  5. I am trying Nero Vision Express now for converting Divx and Xvid.

Though the first conversion had sound out of sync, I hope to have a good
conversion this evening. I converted using PAL while the original Xvid is
NTSC, this might have cause it.

Nero Vision lets you convert all kinds of videofiles including Divx and Xvid
in 1 go to DVD vob files! It has DVD authoring capabilities like
menu design incl. video and sound in the menu's , chapters etc.
The programme converts in great quality and is fast! On my XP 2000
system it took 3 to 3.5 hours, a friend with a 3Ghz system did it in 2 hours.
No qualityloss! PCM and AC3 supported.
after that you can check if the conversion went ok, then burn your DVD with Nero 6.
