My comp specs:
Pentium III 1.1 ghz
120 gb hard drive
512 mb sd ram
I had recently reformatted my system from windows 2000 professional to windows XP professional. I have reinstalled all software. When I reformatted, everything was fine and the C: drive read the right amount of space. After the software was installed, noticed that my computer has used 46.2gb of space. I noticed this when I right clicked on C: and went to properties. I double clicked within the c: drive and had 5 folders. I highlighted the five folders and went to properties and I have a Total of 6Gb used. I also checked the hidden files. Where is the other 40gb of hard disk space being used? I can not find it anywhere. I have Norton systemwork 2003 and I ran the speed dik utility and that did not clear anything up. I ran norton disk doctor and I ran Win doctor. I also did a disk cleanup all before the speed disk and no change in HD space. I ran the Windows XP defrag as well and nothing. I have 40GB of space of which I have no idea of where it is at. All of the folders within my C: drive show a total of 6gb used but when I check the c: drive itself under my computer, it shows 46gb used.
I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you
-Eric

Right click on your Recycle Bin (on your desktop) and select Empty Norton Protected Files as well as Empty Recycle Bin

So it's a secret? That's been asked here a time or two before, and the reason was different each time.
What was your problem? Clue us in.
And, with a fresh install, Norton Protected was not it. My own Norton Protected might have a gig, but that would be a stretch.

sorry george.
anywayz I can not believe I did not check my norton recycle bin. It was 40 gigs full! I have had it for 3 years now and I reinstalled windows, burned a couple dvd's and was stumped. I have emptied it weekly for 3 years. guess it was a brain fart. thanx and sorry I didnt post the answer.

No, Norton Protected doesn't unhide files. It simply tells you you have 2200 files being protected, are you sure?
Most people chicken out, leave them there. If you want to delete as a normal thing, it shows 25 at a time, so you can read the descryptor. deselect, and wind up with still a bunch.
One thing I don't like about it. Why are you saving files I deleted a month ago? If I wanted to keep the damn things I would have undeleted them 3 1/2 weeks ago, if not sooner.
Cheers,
