Changing menus taken from a standalone recorder

i want to take video i've recorded on my standalone, rip it to pc, and make some new menus. they don't have to be fancy. can someone recommend a good program for this?

Rip in IFO mode in DVD Decrypter.
Edit in Womble MPEG VCR if needed.
Author in any old non-encoding authoring program.
I use DVDit! PE and TMPGENC DVD Author often

Using v.3.1.9.0 of DVD Decrypter, I'm getting an M2V file, but for sound I'm getting a VOB instead of an .ac3 and it's the latter I need. Can you tell me where I'm going wrong please? TIA.

just save your video ts folder from your recorded dvdonto your hard drive
and then use tmpeg dvd author and click add dvd video. you will still have your ac 3 dolby sound, but you will not be able to hear it with dvd author while editing. very simple and easy to use. i do it all the time

Do not do STREAM PROCESSING. Rename the VOB to .MPG and it will be fine. If you demux the VOB (or renamed MPG) in TMPGENC, it'll give you an AC3 and an M2V file. Renaming is normally bad, but I've seen no adverse side effects by doing so. I normally edit in Womble first, so it may very well remove stray VOB data.

I've finally got it sussed after this thread and some to-ing and fro-ing, and I'll list what I did here so I can remember myself as well as it possibly helping anyone else do the same in the future.

I took the DVD and used File Mode as above, but did use stream processing in DVD Decrypter to get a .m2v file (in 768x576) and .vob sound file.

Using the Wizard in TMPGEnc Plus, I converted the video file alone down to 720x576 (which takes about twice as long as the file actually plays for), even though Windows Media Player sees the resultant mpg file as a 768x576; and I renamed the audio file from .vob to .mpg and used the De-multiplex option to convert it to an .ac3 file.

Then I put the two together in TMPGEnc Plus in the 'simple multiplex' option to produce one final .mpg file.

Using that in Adobe Encore DVD is fine and I can create menus etc, but it picks the menu image for me, and I'd like to select my own but can't see how I do this. When I recorded the disc in my Philips DVDR75 in the first place it let me set ndividual menu images which I did carefully, but now there's no actual option I can see either to set one, or use the same as already set in the standalone recorder.

I'd appreciate any further help on this. TIA,
