  1. i have some tv shows that are rougly 20 meg avi's and i want to convert them to mpg but when i began to compile the files for re-encoding, to my shock they have inflated to the likes of 178 megs +! quality is not the highest priority for me.....is there any suggested templates or settings i can use to keep the mpgs small as possible and keep the encoding reasonably small, near real time and not have it looking like a 15k/s rm file...i hope it not asking for much any way to knock out one of those problems would be greatly appreciated....THANKS ALOT DUDES!

  2. it depends on the bitrate of the avi's (for both video & audio). If the avi is at a smaller bitrate than a standard VCD/SVCD, and you use tmpgenc to convert the file to one of these standards, the filesize will be bigger. I have encountered this same issue.

I would suggest trying to find out what the bitrate is of the original AVI and making a template in TMPGenc that comes close, then making an XVCD (non-compliant MPEG stream) and try playing it in your DVD player (I'm assuming that's the intended target).
