Has anyone else had problems with Windows 2000, sp4? It's awfully glitchy, to me. I noticed all kinds of little bugs, after I installed it. The final straw was when my computer stopped recognizing my Canon camera. I could connect other usb devices, but it had trouble communication with the camera. I checked the device manager and the computer could detect the device, but it wouldn't allow it any software to connect.

I thought it might be time for a fresh install, so I reinstalled windows and installed sp4, again. I also installed a patch that's supposed to fix the problem with the camere, but it still didn't work. I installed windows again, but went back to Directx 8.1 and sp2. Everything works like a dream. I have no more driver issues or software compatability problems.

If anyone's experienced similar problems that are related to sp4, I'd like to hear about them. I'm sure I can't be the only one. I posted a similar message before, but sp4 had just come out, at the time.

  2. XP SP1 is the way to go.

When SP2 comes out XP will be the best.

I've had no real problems with SP4 that I hadn't always had. Needed to patch one program when I installed it.

Not a problem for me on Win2k SP4. I don’t have a problem with WinXP SP 1 either.

I had to postpone the upgrade to SP4 for several months due incompatibility of NIS/NAV 2001 and now I am using a new version and all is fine for now.

Any program incompatibility and a new bug is always a risk when upgrading any OS and this includes WinXP SP1 and WinXP SP2.

I experienced one minor problem the other day using my CD writer program, Roxio’s “Basic Easy CD Creator 5”.

This may not be Win2k SP4 related; however this does show that formatting a CD-RW disk as not compatible on this OS. Everything else is fine, making a music CD backup and backing up my computer files.

I originally thought the OS upgrade was causing this problem and later found not to be the case as the program CD-ROM disk belongs to another computer, a notebook on WinXP Pro.

I think the formatting part of the program is only compatible on WinXP and this doesn’t work on any version of Win2000.

I am lucky in some ways using this program on a different PC and some guys can’t use the disk at all on a different PC and a different OS.
