  1. Ive been using TMPGenc for quite a while now and thanks to this site have had plenty of success with altering the settings to fit 90min movies onto 1 disk wiv quite good quality but ive read many times that Mainconcept is much quicker so ive been messing with the Mainconcept VCD settings but had no joy with fitting 90min movies onto 1 VCD disk , can someone point me in the right direction please . I have the latest version 1.4.1 and even tho i can alter the settings wen i change it to just Mpeg-1 but this is not playable on a dvd player so i need to be able to alter the VCD settings as i do with TMPGenc . Thanks .

  2. Not sure if mainconcept will let you make an XVCD (i.e. non-standard bitrate) directly.

However, one option would be to encode to audio and video elementary streams (with your edited mpeg1 settings), and then multiplex these together as VCD using bbMPEG. end result should play fine on your set-top player (assuming the TMPGEnc versions did). There are plenty of guides for bbMPEG, it is an excellent tool for multiplexing, and will not add much time to your overall process.

  3. Just use a bitrate calc, and set it manually.
You can even make KVCD's, if you get the settings right.
I admit it's not as versatile as TMPGEnc, or Canopus, but it does produce a nice product.
I use it exclusively for SVCD, and leave the non-standard stuff to TMPGEnc.
