  1. Is there a way to set AVStoDVD to fit the content to disk? Let's say I have some files that under normal conversion would create a video ts folder with 6 GB of data, is there a way to set AVStoDVD to fit that onto a standard DVD5? In these instances I am not concerned with any quality loss, etc. Frankly these files may not have had the quality to begin with.

I believe DVD Flick can do this, but I am now playing around with AVStoDVD and would love to have them same functionality.

    Thanks.

  3. Thank you for the fast response Baldric,
I tried that option first, with 3 .avi files to make up one DVD and the results were over 5gb when saving to folder to burn later.
I figure maybe I am missing something. I had set the conversion to use HCenc 1 pass.
Should I be looking at a setting elsewhere that I may have missed, or is it possible it just could not re-encode the files that low?

To get the project to fit I ran the video_ts folder through DVD Shrink, and the results were fine for this pupose, but I'd like to avoid that extra step.

It's under preferences to predetermine the bitrate. Check the video tab in preferences.

I have only just started using this program. I successfully converted two bluray discs I own to dvd with 5.1 ac3 448khz audio (both had dts master hd audio thus I am unable to dub with my hauppauge hd pvr - no dts support).

I don't have the program installed on the computer I'm surfing with at the moment so I can't post screen shots right now.

Edit - a quick forum search brought up the very guide I used to make my dvds:

    http://adubvideo.net/how-to/convert-bluray-dvd-avstodvd

actually its under encoding - you should be able to manually enter a bitrate you desire

  5. Thank you for pointing that out Yoda313, I'll try it with these settings when I get home later.
Also, thanks for the link to the guide!

    You're welcome.

Like I said I just found that program Friday and made two dvds out of my blurays with little to no fuss which I like. On further review it looks like those aren't precise bitrates but rather a drop down list - so it would be a range you would set (whatever predetermined options it gives you).

Also don't forget to save the current profile as default just to be 100% sure it sticks with the setting. You can always change it later but at least you won't lose it for that session.

Edit - also I think the author of the guide recommends 2 pass to get a better result on a fixed bitrate file size - but be sure to select the dvd 5 option as baldrick showed just to be on the safe side - it should fit it automatically but since it didn't for you I would still have it selected to be sure.

AVStoDVD obviously calculates the bitrate to fit the DVD-5 (as default option). BUT there is a min bitrate limit (2500 kbps by default). If you get that limit (i.e. you insert more than 3h40m video footage), then bitrate will remain 2500 kbps and filesize will go over 4450 MB. You are visually warned by the bottom size bar that becomes red.

If you want to decrease min video bitrate, you have to go to 'Preferences'/'AudioVideo' and select a suitable 'Video lower avg bitrate'. BTW I strongly suggest to stay over 2000 kbps, otherwise quality will be compromised. More details in Help section.

  8. Thanks _MrC_. (and great software!)
I played around and see that aside from setting the disk size to DVD5 I also may need to make some adjustments in the preferences tabs.
Thanks to all for the guidance.
