Well it's in direct competition with the Plextor convert x. But from what I read it has an sound synch lock feature, and the ability to capture and encode at higher bit rates than the Plextor. Have any of you people tried it? It sounds like the proverbial quick and easy solution to VHS capture.

Thanks, but has they're been any comparisons with other capture devices on the market? For $99.00 U.S the price is right, but not if it's no better than my dismal Winfast deluxe card. The only re-occuring issue seems to be that it heats up very fast.

That would be enough to keep me away from it :P The user reviews weren't exactly glowing, with the common complaint being lock-ups. Sounds like ADS is still turning out junk, IMHO :P

I've had great results with my ADS DVD Xpress. I've captured up to 2 hours without any problem at Mpeg 2 720 x 480. The unit does heat up but I have not had any problems with lock-up. I have had some software and driver problems but after doing a clean install of Windows XP it worked fine. For $99 dollars to back up home videos it was well worth the price and I would highly recommend.

  6. I was just about to put a post in about this, so hope you don't mind me tagging a question on....I'm wanting to capture a few old home movies and the like, which are made up of a lot of different clips, and are likely to have a lot of gaps etc in the video. I read that some cpature cards can't cope with such gaps, and just stop recording (and my current Matrox one does the same), which is very bad if recording from these sorts of sources. Does anyone know if the ADS capture card copes okay with such sources?
