There may be a better forum for this sort of question (some sort of video effects forum?) but I don't know about it. Sorry.
Anyway, I have in mind to surprise my relatives by having some home video footage altered into strange renditions. One idea that leaps to mind would be to take normal 60-fields-per-second video and recreate it by having frame 1 be a morph frame 1&2, frame 2 be a morph of frame 2&3, etc. The effect would be subtle. Or it could get really weird by having frame 1 be a morph of frame 1&5, etc.
Is there terminology for this sort of effect? Is there a way to achieve this effect, through scripting or just a really powerful filter? Can anyone point me in the right direction? ;P
Recommendations for other weird effects I might try, which wouldn't require me to baby the process for hours and hours, would also be most welcome.

I would suggest the trial versions of Ulead Video Studio 7. It has some amazing transitions, picture in pictures, etc. And it is free for thirty days. Easy learning curve with tutorials available.

Okay, I'll check that out, thanks. Did anyone have any suggestions for achieving my specific morphing example above?

Hmm. Well, I suppose there could be more than one definition. But what I specifically mean is the effect you get when you, for example, take an image of a man's face, and an image of a woman's face, and use your morphing software of choice to cause the man's face to mutate into the woman's face, and vice-versa. Except in the case of what I'm seeking for video, the "morph" between two frames would be the halfway point between said mutation. Note the difference between "morph" as I describe it above, and "fade" or "transition".

Sounds like you wanna fade into frame 2 from frame 1. I think the change would be too fast for the human eye to catch it. You may want to try a gradual fade in. Pretty sure Adobe Premiere can do it. Maybe even VDub.

Well, not fade, really. That's quite a different beast from a morph. Anyway, I've been told the effect I'm looking for is called frame blending. At least, that's what it's called when applicable to the idea of morphing consecutive frames. Not sure what you'd call it if you morphed frames in this order: 1&5, 2&6, 3&7 etc. That would be a far less subtle effect.
