  1. hey, recently got windows xp. when i capture avi files. as soon as i click on it in windows explorer, the hard drive goes nuts like its scanning the entire file (2-3gigs). i let it go and it takes minutes until it stops. then if i click on file again, hardrive activity starts up again. anyone experience this? anyone know how to stop. only solution i've found is to use dos and rename file to .mpg extension. problem is i can't copy files off cd because can't rename.

    win xp 2600 with ntfs

  2. That's cause the web view previews the video (to the left of the explorer window), so it has to open up the file like you were opening in media player, either resize the window till the web view dissapears, or turn it off (Tools>Folder Options> View Classic Folders)

  3. hmm, it still does it. what do u mean by resize window? even if i let it finish scanning, i don't see a preview picture anywhere.

i also tried disabling preview mode in windows movie maker but no go.

anyone else have solution? it's incredibly annoying.

Try using a different media to open your AVI. See if the same problem happens. =|

I suggest using like PowerDVD, Tha Playa, etc.
