Preliminary research into this topic rewarded me with the discovery of the app called DVTimeStamp, which takes MiniDV time codes and superimposes the information over the video. Nifty.

But it really makes a lot more sense to add such information in the form of presistent subtitles, which could be turned on or off at will. Certainly, anyone with a plasma display (or who finds such superimposed imagery distractful) can appreciate the logic.

How about it? It seems like such a cool idea that I'm sure it's been done. What would be a good way to go about doing this?

  2. Well what I assume you mean is a timecode that acts like a subtitle on a DVD. Not sure why you would need this buuuuuuuut...I imagine you could always create one with any one of the sub programs. It would be a bit time consuming (Not to mention tedious) but you could use the same sub you created over and over again for different discs. Make the sub as big and as long as you think you'll ever need then edit it down as required per disc. maybe there is some way to extract timecode from an editor into a text file which would make the process easier, I just don't know how...merely suggesting the first thing that came to mind.

    Heh...good luck!
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

What I meant was a subtitle track on a DVD (which can of course be turned on/off at will) which displays the time & date information that used to be part of the video data on the MiniDV. And the purpose would of course be so one could tell what time / date they're looking at when reviewing old home videos. ;P

Anyway, it wasn't long before I found what might be all I need. DV Sub Maker, in this site's tools page. Says it only supports PAL but I'll give it a whirl anyway.
