  1. Since I Bought the ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro 32mb I've had 3 main problems with it and need solutions if possible.

    My Computer Specs are.

    500mhz Pentium Celeron
    160mb RAM
    Windows ME
    2x 10GB Hard-Drive

My first problem is that I can not at all capture in VirtualDub which I would like to. I says "Error 418: Capture device was not detected". I think the drivers I've got only support DirectX capturing. I've checked out the ATI website and read that the newest drivers (which I've got) don't support video for windows. The drivers below do support it but are 13MB!! Is there any other way of enabling this without downloading 13MB??

My next problem is that when I capture in any Bitrate in MPEG2 from the ATI capturing software, no editing programs can open it. I can play them in Windows Media Player, but can edit them in something like TMPGenc. I've tried remuxing them but it still dont work. Please tell me how can I avoid this.

The next one is not so important but if anyone can figure out a solution plz tell me. When I go on the internet and open the ATI TV program where u capture and watch the TV, the Net just stops completely and can't dop nothin on the net, but when u exit it, its fine again. This is really weird. I have a 56k running modem with AOL.

    Thanx

  2. Hey, okay got some answers for you. As for your first question, I don't use Vdub, just the ati mmc for direct recording to mpeg1. Now as for your second question, I had the same problem with using TMPGenc, and now of course no longer use it. However, use the ati mmc editor found on this site to make the mpegs you do encode "correct" for you dvd player. They won't be entirely "correct", but assuming you follow most of the directions, you will be able to use nero and they work fine on my Pioneer Dv-333. Now, for you last question, clicking on the tv icon in I.E. also messes up my machine, so no help there. Sorry.

  3. vdub prob can be fixed by going to instal prog in settings and installing web tv under windows tab this should install necessary driver m2-edit will open and edit those m2's but it costs a good amount of cash try demo its made by mediaware dont know sites 3rd prob no answer in my opinion must be ao(hell) i dont have prob with cable modem nor ANY OTHER PROBS THAT I HAD WITH AO(HELL)

  4. I think you have the tv on demand running. the ati is recording while u are watching. did u notice the hd busy light?? Just a guess.

u also need an mpeg2 codec like in lsx, or videowave can edit mpeg2 but i takes a looooooong time to edit.

First question: You can use the latest ATI drivers
with the WDMVFW wrapper (link found in forum someplace).
I do like the responsiveness out of the MMC 7.1 interface
though (tv channel changing is quick). However, I drop
lots and lots of frames with AVI_IO on 750 Mhz Athlon
    with this configuration.
I ended up installing old MMC 6.3 and its associated
drivers. Hate the interface (slow tv channel changing)
but I only drop 1 in 10000 frames.
Spend the time downloading the old drivers.

  6. Thanx for the help, I've found the wrapper, but I don't know how to use the files. Could some1 tell me how u use it plz??

  7. I have try the wrapper and the only good capture is 352/240 NTSC.
With other size much bigger, I have some dropped frame.

    My config:
    cel 900@1000
    384 Mo ram
    ATI Rage fury pro VIVO
    MMC 7.1
    30Go ATA66

    How to install.

Easy, Just right click on the inf file and select install.

Personnaly I use the MMC with recording in mpeg2 format with I frame only selected and I encode it in AVI with DVD2AVI. It work very fine and it's fast.

An other process is to record in mpeg1 and encode it with tmpeg.

    Sorry for my bad english.

Make sure to copy both the dll and drv files to
    the windows system32 folder.

At this point, I'm out of suggestions. I didn't
have too much problems with AVI_IO, latest ATI drivers
for ATI AIW 128 16meg, and the wrapper (besides of
frame dropping like mad). Of course I'm running
    Win98SE also.

Maybe try the AVI_IO demo and see if get have problems
    also.

One last suggestion, I'm not sure if this will help or
not. Remove the drv and dll file. Undo the registry
changes for the wrapper. And then install WebTV (from
WindowsME CD - if it exits). This is how I got the
wrapper in the first place (before I found download
    listed here).
As I stated earilier, I've gone back to using the VFW
drivers since they capture better. With the wrapper,
    I drop frames big time.

Sorry I'm out out of suggestions,

    JT

  12. Current ATI AIW 128 product is only good for mpeg2 recording at best, because ATI has changed both the capture (encoder/decoder) chip and the Rage128 chip. You can try to install the old VFW driver for it, but the driver will tell you that the card contains the wrong chipset....then MMC6.x will not install correctly ( no TV/capture driver ).

If you can find the older ATI AIW 128 product (1999-2000), then you can use the VFW driver. Otherwise, you have to stick with lousy mpeg1 and troublesome mpeg2.

ATI has a great product once upon a time......
