I DID search the forums and giudes but didn't get anything. I'm trying to back up a DVD-9 to one DVDR. I'm using DVDShrink to encode but cannot get it under 4.3GB. The original file is a little 7GB's. If at all possible I'd like to keep it to one DVDR. Please help, thanks.

    I'm using:

    DVD Decrypter
    DVD Shrink
    Img Tool/Nero

eh? there are loads of guides that tell you how to do this

    e.g. Try this one
    or
    This One
    or
Any of the ones listed HERE

I think you got the order wrong...

    use DVD Shrink first
then Nero / Img Tools to create ISO
and then DVD Decrypter to burn to DVDR

I really did do a search, I got nothing, not sure why.

And my order is right. This is the method I've been using for a little over a year now. It's probably outdated but it's worked for me so I havn't really needed to change it. I'm using DVDShrink v1.03. So goes to show you how out of it I am. I like the new DVDShrink, I'm gonna have to play with it, thanks for the links.

Why do you use Decryptor before Shrink? I can understand that sometimes Shrink can have a problem ripping a disk, but for 90+% of the time it works out fine by itself.

  5. I had the same problem. This is how I solved it (with the help of few wise minds from this forum).

Use DVDShrink in the first pass, shrink it as much as you can and write it a had disk folder, don't worry if it is still too big for a DVDR.

Now pass this through DVDShrink again and you should be able to shrink it now to fit into one DVDR.

    kingkill33,

I have used Dvd Decryptor and DvdShrink 3.1.5, exclusively. I have ripped and burned dvd-9 discs to dvd-r discs.

You should used Dvd Decryptor first to remove macrovision, the FBI warning, and copy guard. Next, use Dvd Shrink to make the adjustments to fit the Dvd 9 onto the Dvd 5 disc.

I have found that the automatic setting usually compresses at 8-9 gig file at about 55 - 60% after you remove the unwanted audio and language files and keep all the menus and added features (making of clip, out-takes, etc.) Discs that I have burned this way on my Pioneer 107 Dvd writer play perfectly on my Daewoo Dvg3000N and Sony DAV CF7 players with no microblocks.

You can achieve higher quality discs by using the Re-author feature on Dvd Shrink. You can get 75 - 80+% when you select the main movie, the trailer, and maybe one clip (e.g. the making of...). The only drawback is that you lose the menus, but the re-authored files play sequentially.

One other note, with Dvd Shrink 3.1.5, you don't need Nero because you can burn the newly encoded files directly to you dvd burner.

I've had great success using these two free programs. They are fast, stable, and, best of all, the right price.

    Hope this helps.

Any Shrink version prior to 3 needs DVDDecryptor (it doesn't do DeCSS).

Shrink version 1.03 is too old to do 55% compression, upgrade to 3.1.6 and you will be fine. Also make sure you have multi-angle turned off.

I tried to re-encode using DVDShrink 3.1.6 but it wouldn't work.

One question, why is my Audio so big?? It's over 2GB, it's bigger than the video, that can't be right.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

it is because your audio is PCM-uncompressed. That is why it is so big.

DVD Shrink then burn the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders with Nero. No DVD Decrypter. Works like a champ.
