Hello,
I have short home video recorded in PAL VCD format. It plays just fine on my plain vanilla Toshiba DVD player here in Australia.
If I send a copy to a friend in the USA, is it likely that he will be able to play it on a normally available USA DVD player?
Thanks,
Geoff.

It will probrably play but it is very likely that the picture will be in black and white and may well have verticle hold issues.

I have the Star Wars VCD set (which is PAL) and it plays fine. Also Lion King plays fine. Both are PAL format. My players are Pioneer, Apex, and Phillips. All three play them fine.
Also the Philips player played a home brewed PAL VCD (actually from an australian friend). I am sure it plays on the other players too but I haven't tried it yet.
