  1. First question:
What is the minute limits for a movie (left as is, w/o features) to fit on a dvd5?

    2nd:
If i have to use dvdshrink to resample, will there be a noticable difference, or what are the opinions on how long a movie should be before I should put it on 2 discs as opposed to trying to crunch it to keep it on 1?

    thanks for all the help!

There are no definitive answers to your questions because both can have multiple answers with the common denominator being video quality and the effort you are prepared to put in, both of which are subjective to say the least.

My experience has been as follows:

You can fit 8 hours @ VCD bitrate if you want to...
DVDShrink can compress to 50% with no noticable loss of quality on a 68cm TV...

My advice would be to try a few things yourself and see what is acceptable in terms of quality for you, because after all, your dvd collection is yours and yours alone.

I have found DVDShrink to be quite capable at DVD9-DVD5 shrinks. I have re-encoded multiple DVDs to fit 6 hours on 1 DVDR at 352x288 1500kbps which shows up pretty good on normal TVs.
    If in doubt, Google it.
